Why this site exists

Backyard chicken information is abundant, but the decisions are interconnected. A breed can be a wonderful layer yet be a poor fit for harsh winters, a calm bird may use more housing space, and an attractive six-breed mix may not be the simplest choice for a first-time keeper. The planner combines those tradeoffs in one auditable recommendation engine.

What we try to do differently

We maintain structured breed records, link source material to the records, distinguish published housing references from our own conservative planning targets, and keep commercial relationships out of the recommendation score.

What the site is not

It is not a substitute for local ordinances, veterinary care, breeder advice, or hands-on husbandry judgment. It also does not claim that a breed tendency predicts every individual chicken.

How the project will improve

Future revisions can improve ZIP-level climate calibration, deepen breed trait coverage, add better housing and management calculators, and incorporate user feedback without changing the principle that recommendations should remain explainable.
